The Museum Data Exchange has created tools supporting data sharing in the art museum community and beyond. This page allows users of these tools to connect with one another - here you can share your insights or ask questions about COBOAT and OAICatMuseum ("Discussion"), and post your COBOAT configuration files for reuse by others ("Documents").
- COBOAT extracts CDWA Lite XML records from museum collections management systems (or other database systems in the cultural heritage community). It is a metadata publishing tool developed by Cognitive Applications Inc. (Cogapp) that transfers information between databases (such as collections management systems) and different formats.
- OAICatMuseum is an OAI-PMH data content provider optimized for delivering CDWA Lite XML records. The OAICatMuseum software allows museums to disclose descriptions of collection items as well as pointers to digital surrogates. It can be used to efficiently share digital images with trusted partners who have requested access to museum content, or with the networked world at large.
COBOAT works hand-in-glove with OAICatMuseum: while COBOAT extracts the data from collection management systems, the open source OAICatMuseum software allows museums to disclose the extracted CDWA Lite descriptions of collection items as well as pointers to digital surrogates.
